New movie 'Cold Storage' echoes 'Return of the Living Dead' in the best ways

For 2026, we've already seen some solid horror movies hit theaters. One movie we think will go under the radar that definitely shouldn't is "Cold Storage" from StudioCanal and MGM. When watching it, we found it eerily similar to another famed horror movie close to our hearts.

The premise of the movie follows two employees working late who accidentally discover a deadly virus that zombifies anything it comes in contact with (including animals and corpses). This fungal virus mutated after being in space on Skylab in the 1970s and falling back to early in a tank. Yes, it was first concealed then released in a tank! The Government then buried these samples in the basement of a secure facility, until the facility was sold and forgotten about for decades. Sound familiar?

Cold Storage was a lot of fun, with it's well timed humor and simple story - it was a quick and satisfying ride and quite the refresher with many of the movies coming out this year being quiet serious or depressing in tone. One review on Letterboxd noted it as being "The Return of the Living Dead" (1985) meets "Evolution" (2001) which is a great combo we think fans of either will enjoy.

Check out this list of just some of the similarities:

Cold Storage was written by legendary writer David Koepp based off his own novel. His previous titles include Jurassic Park, Mission Impossible, Death Becomes Her, War of the Worlds, Spiderman and many more. It stars Liam Neeson, Sosie Bacon, Joe Keery, and Georgina Cambell. Lastly, the film was directed by Jonny Cambell.
